The Sault’s employment level continues to climb as we enter the summer period.
Stats Canada is reporting that the number of employed last month in Sault Ste. Marie has reached the highest level in quite a while according to Jonathan Coulman the Executive Director of the Algoma Workforce Investment Corporation…

It’s been as low as 35-thousand-100 this year.
The Sault’s unemployment rate came in at 4.7% last month—down from the year ago rate of 5.1%.
Coulman says employment gains are being seen across the board—-especially healthcare but even in manufacturing although he says we’re not seeing the full impacts of the Trump tariffs in the latest numbers yet…

The participation rate increased more than 4% and climbed just above 60% at 60.2%—-that rate measures both the number of employed combined with those unemployed but actively looking for work.
The employment rate increased over 5% to 57.4%.
