Sault Ste. Marie’s new police chief had a chance to address city council at last night’s meeting after he was officially sworn-in.
City Police Chief Hugh Stevenson took over earlier this month and in his brief address to council he talked about his belief that policing is an intregal part of a community—-not only in public safety but in public health.
He says people should be able to walk down a street not only feeling safe but knowing they are safe.
Chief Stevenson also touched on the opioid crisis that is impacting the north saying it is not just a policing issue but a community issue and his goal is to work with community partners in taking the issue on.
He says we may not stamp it out but we can certainly have an impact.
