Rotaryfest Supplied by city police…
The Sault Ste Marie Police Service would like to remind the public that the 95th annual Rotary Community Day Parade will be taking place this Saturday July 16, 2016.  As a result traffic interruptions will occur in the downtown area between the hours of 9 am to 1 pm.
Again this year the parade staging area will be on Bay Street.  As a result, Bay Street will be closed between Elgin Street and Pim Street beginning at 9 am and will not reopen until 12 pm.  In addition, Queen Street East will be closed from Pim Street to Gore Street starting at 10 am.  As in years past, in order to ensure the safe movement of the parade, there will be no parking on Queen Street East between Pim Street and Andrew Street starting at 8 am on Saturday until the conclusion of the parade.  Any vehicles parked in that area will be removed.   Members of the public dropping parade participants off, are asked to park in one of the civic lots near Queen St., and walk to the staging area to avoid being blocked in by the road closures.
Members of the community attending to view the parade are being asked to stay on the sidewalks and refrain from being on Queen Street East while the parade is in motion. We ask that drivers be vigilant in this area as there will be a higher than normal number of pedestrians and onlookers.
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is happy to be a part this community event.  Rotaryfest is always a much anticipated event.  We look forward to interacting with members of the public to ensure a safe and fun day for our community.  As in years past, we will have officers posted at various intersections along the parade route to assist with any traffic disruptions that might occur.
