On May 14, 2016 the Sault Ste. Marie Police Criminal Investigations Division entered into an investigation of a historical sexual assault.
This investigation involved incidents that had occurred between the years 1972 – 1979 at which time the female victim was between the ages of  7 – 14 years old and was assaulted by a person known to her.
On Wednesday June 22, 2016 a 74 year old male from Sault Ste. Marie was arrested and charged with the following offences:
Incest, section 150 C.C.
Rape, section 144 C.C.
Sexual Intercourse with female under fourteen, section 146 C.C.
Charges laid in matters that are dated or historical are those that relate to the laws of the day. In this case these charges relate to the Criminal Code of Canada 1972.
The Sault Ste. Marie Police do not release the names of accused individuals when doing so may identify the victim. Police protect victims of crime.
The accused attended bail court in Sault Ste. Marie.
