SportsThe Soo Greyhounds needed overtime to beat the Flint Firebirds 4-3 last night.  Blake Speers netted the winner with 1:10 left in the extra period.  Speers also had two assists, while Gabe Guertler scored two goals and one assist for the winners. Tim Gettinger scored the other Greyhound goal.  The Korah Colts are the city junior and senior girls basketball champions.  Taylor Elliot had 16 points to lead the Colts over St. Marys 51-30 in the junior final.  Carina Hargis and Tory Ivey combined for 16 points in Korah’s 32-28 over the Knights in the senior final.  Algoma Thunderbirds lost to Wilfred Laurier in OUA basketball.  Laura Meadows led Algoma women with 12 points in a 71-36 loss to the Golden Hawks.  Sean Clendinning’s 25 points were not enough as Algoma fell 79-70 to the Wilfred Laurier men in overtime.  Diego Cuglietta and Gus Correale tallied for Lake State in their 3-2 overtime loss to Arizona State.  Jordan Masters scored the winner with 32 seconds left in in the extra period.  Akaemji Williams led the Lakers with 24 points as the men’s basketball beat Southern Indiana 91-73 in Las Vegas.  The Laker women fell 60-45 to Illinois-Springfield.  Tamara Novie led Lake State with 12 points and 8 rebounds.  Lake State ended its season in women’s volleyball yesterday against Michigan Tech, losing in three sets.
