CitySSM  The municipal daycare issue will be back before city council at Monday’s meeting and included in the agenda is a staff report outlining the impacts of an option for the city in operating municipal daycare spaces out of three schools.  The report estimates the annual operating savings for the city would be 150-to-175-thousand dollars and in addition there would be a capital cost savings of approximately 1-million dollars over a 25-year period with the closure of the Maycourt and Jessie Irving Daycare Centres.  The report also indicates that increases to the full fee would be required to get closer to the break even point for the city.  The report suggests an increase to the rate by $25 to $30 per day for a total daily fee of $65 to $70.
City staff has recommended that the city transition out of being a daycare provider.
