Ottawa, ON  Today, Sault Ste. Marie MP Terry Sheehan made his first speech in the House of Commons.
“During the election, we promised that a Liberal government would invest in our economy by standing up for the middle class and making historic investments in infrastructure, and that is exactly what we are going to do in Sault Ste. Marie and across the country,” said Sheehan.
In his speech, Sheehan noted the importance of the steel industry in Sault Ste. Marie and to the Canadian economy. He spoke to the importance of investing in Canadian families through the middle class tax cut and tax-free Canada Child benefit, and of the Government`s role when it comes to job creation.
“Like many other industries, the steel industry is facing challenging economic times after a decade of neglect. It`s time we elevate the discussion around domestic steel so that companies like Essar Algoma Steel and Tenaris continue to prosper and create jobs. The Government`s plan to invest historic amounts in infrastructure is good for our riding.”
