Sault Ste. Marie, ON (2017 06 07) – The City of Sault Ste. Marie has issued a Motion for Leave to Appeal the Decision made by Justice Newbould regarding the City’s motion for payment of post-filing property taxes.
On May 17, 2017, the City’s motion was dismissed by Justice Newbould on the understanding that Essar Steel Algoma Inc. would begin paying $350,000.00 per month to the City. However, no payment was ordered for accrued post-filing taxes for the period of November 9, 2015 to the date of the motion which remains at $11 Million.
The Leave to Appeal identifies a number of errors in law and fact that serve as grounds for the appeal to be heard.
The City of Sault Ste. Marie thanks the community for their ongoing support. Further updates will be communicated once more information is available.
