Holiday Donation from the United Steelworkers

Supplied by the United Steelworkers… Today the United Steelworkers were happy to present the Sault Ste. Marie Soup Kitchen with $7,500.  Ron Sim, General Manager of the Soup Kitchen received a cheque for $4,000 from the Steelworkers Humanity Fund.   Mike Da Prat, President of USW Local 2251 presented Ron a cheque for $1,500 on behalf of his membership.  Lisa Dale, President of USW Local 2724 and Cody Alexander, President of USW Local 9548 also presented cheques for $1,000 each on behalf of their memberships.

In addition to the Sault Ste. Marie Soup Kitchen, USW Local 9548 donated $1,000 to both the United Way and ARCH.  Laid off members of USW Local 9548 are also receiving a $55 Pino’s gift card.  USW Local 2724 donated $1,000 to each of the following charities – Sault Star Santa Fund, St. Vincent’s, Pauline’s Place, the Salvation Army and the Children’s Comfort Centre at ARCH.

USW Local 2251 donated an additional $1,500 to St. Vincent’s.  In support of the children’s meal programs $10,000 was donated to the Algoma District School Board and $5,250 to the Huron Superior Catholic School Board.  Another $1,500 was donated to support the Children’s Comfort Centre at the ARCH Hospice.  USW Local 2251 delegates will be delivering approximately 140 fruit baskets to local members and retirees who are currently in local nursing homes, the Sault Area Hospital and ARCH.  They will also be issuing cheques to the spouses of members who have passed away during the past year.
