Change has come in a big way for Sault Ste. Marie in last night’s by-election vote.
City councillor and local lawyer Ross Romano captured the Sault riding for the PC’s last night and will be Sault Ste. Marie’s first Progressive Conservative MPP in over 30-years.
Romano who secured his party’s nomination prior to former Liberal Cabinet Minister David Orazietti stepping down in December talks about what connected with the voters…

Romano talked about the significance of the victory following his victory speech in front of his campaign supporters at the Quattro Hotel last night…

Romano was joined last night by PC Leader Patrick Brown who says the victory sends a clear message to the Wynne Liberals just a year away from a general election…

Romano took the lead from the NDP’s Joe Krmpotich with a third of the polls reporting and never gave it back winning over Krmpotich by over 18-hundred votes.
Liberal candidate Debbie Amaroso finished in 3rd over 44-hundred votes less than Romano.
Kara Flannigan of the Green Party garnered over 500 votes—-when she ran in the 2014 provincial election she had over 9 hundred votes.
There were over 300 voters who didn’t like any of the choices by voting for None of the Above Party candidate.
The Libertarian and Pauper candidates both had less than a hundred votes.
Voter turnout was just under 44%—-that compares to the 51% turnout in 2014 in the last general election.
