Wednesday April 6th, the Sault College Athletics Awards banquet was held at Quattro Conference Centre. The evening celebrated the accolades earned by Sault College athletes during the 2015-2016 season. Some of these accomplishments included:
¡E OCAA Bronze medal, earned by Men’s Varsity Golf
„h OCAA Bronze medal, Anastasia Greve Varsity Cross Country
¡E OCAA Silver medals, earned by Mixed Curling and Men’s Curling at their respective championships
¡E OCCCR Provincial Champions, earned by Women’s Hockey
¡E Canadian Collegiate Silver Medalists, earned by Men’s curling
¡E Cheer Evolution College Champions, Competitive Cheerleading
Sault College Athletics also presented the Joe Williams Builder’s Award to curling coach Carl Punkari. Carl has brought 10 cumulative OCAA medals to the College over the past five years. Two CCAA medals and All-star Honours, as well as several Academic Recognition awards for countless athletes. Sault College Athletics would like to thank Carl for his outstanding contribution to Sault College students.
The evening concluded with the presentation of the Female and Male Athlete of the Year awards, presented to the athlete who displays outstanding ability, leaderships, sportsmanship, and efficient academic standing.
Sault College congratulates Sandy Toole, recipient of the Female Athlete of the Year. Her success in skipping the mixed curling team to a silver medal in the OCAA championships this past season was a great achievement. Sandy has also earned All-star recognitions, Academic Honours and was a crucial ingredient in the development of the 2015-2016 mixed curling team.
Kyle Sherlock was presented with the Ross Bachert Male Athlete of the Year Award, for his accumulated curling accolades over his four year history at the College. His accomplishments are unmatched by any athlete in Sault College history.
We thank both Kyle and Sandy for their contribution to athletics programming at Sault College.
