A 2.4% decline in the Sault’s population according to Stats Canada in its 2016 census.
The popuation has fallen to 73,368.
The Sault wasn’t alone when compared to other major northern centres—North Bay’s population dropped by 3.9%, Timmins by 4.2% and Thunder Bay slightly by .4%.
The City of Sudbury grew by .8% to over 161-thousand.
As for nearby smaller communities, Wawa’s fell 2.4% to 2905, Blind River’s fell 2.2% and Elliot Lake’s by 5.3%.
Thessalon increased by half a percent to 1286.
