CitySSM   Grand slam curling and recognition of NHL hockey great Ron Francis are a couple of the agenda items for Monday’s city council meeting.  Sault Ste. Marie will once again be playing host to a curling grand slam event in December.  Council on Monday will consider a recommendation that the City enter into an agreement with Roger’s Media to co-promote the event scheduled from December 3rd to the 11th at the Essar Centre.  Roger’s owns both Country 104.3 and KiSS 100.5.  The City played host to a grand slam event back in November of 2014 and managed a small profit.  Team Jacobs will be a participant in the 2016 event.
The City has been working with both the Sault Ste. Marie Hockey Hall of Fame and the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee as they look for ways to recognize the accomplishments of Ron Francis.  Francis was drafted 4th overall in the ’81 NHL entry draft, enjoyed a 23-year NHL career that included two Stanley Cups, was 2nd all time in assists and 4th all time in total points.  He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2007.  The report for council is an information item with no action required Monday.
