At its meeting January 27, 2016, the Board of Health for Algoma Public Health passed a resolution to appoint Dr. Alex Hukowich as an Associate Medical Officer of Health effective March 1, 2016. This appointment is contingent on approval by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.
Dr. Hukowich will provide public health medical leadership. He will work with Algoma Public Health staff on day-to-day issues and report to Dr. Sutcliffe who continues as Algoma Public Health’s Acting Medical Officer of Health.

“Dr. Hukowich served as Medical Officer of Health of the Porcupine Health Unit and for the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit,” says Dr. Sutcliffe. “We are very fortunate to have Dr. Hukowich who has extensive knowledge of public health and will be a great asset to our staff.”

The Board of Health welcomes Dr. Hukowich and is looking forward to his leadership in protecting and promoting health for Algoma residents. Dr’s Hukowich and Sutcliffe are providing interim medical officer of health coverage for Algoma Public Health as the Board continues to recruit permanently to the role.
