“This grant will help to ensure the YMCA’s longevity in our community,” said Orazietti. “The Sault Ste. Marie YMCA has been a valuable community resource for over a century, and our government is committed to helping organizations like the YMCA to strategically renew their infrastructure in order to continue serving our community for years to come.”

The funding will reduce the risk of flooding and structural damage at the YMCA by allowing the organization to re-engineer and install the new system.  By upgrading the storm water and sewer management system, the YMCA will benefit from a strengthened and renewed physical infrastructure, ensuring storm water is routed away from the building to prevent future flooding.

“The Sault Ste. Marie YMCA is extremely happy to receive the support of the Ontario Trillium Foundation and the Provincial Government for our Storm Water Management project,” said Kim Caruso, Chief Executive Officer of the YMCA. “As a non-profit, charitable organization that has served this community for over 100 years, it is essential to provide assurance and prevention against future flooding, so that we can continue to provide programs for our community.”

The YMCA provides a variety of services to the Sault Ste. Marie community, including health, fitness, and recreation programs for all ages, community outreach programs, and employment programs for youth at risk.
