Four Kentucky men have been fined a total of $4,000 for possessing too many smallmouth bass.

Thomas Stephenson, Derek Evans, James Evans and Kenneth Evans pleaded guilty and were each fined $1,000 for possessing more smallmouth bass than permitted by their angling licences.

Court heard that on August 23, 2014, conservation officers from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, along with officers from the Canadian Wildlife Service and Canada Border Services Agency, were conducting outgoing compliance inspections at the International Bridge in Sault Ste. Marie. Upon inspection, the four men produced 56 smallmouth  bass. They had licences allowing them to possess 16 smallmouth bass, putting them 40 bass over their legal possession limit.

Justice of the Peace Kathleen Bryant heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Sault Ste. Marie, on April 2, 2015.
