Government of Canada Invests $100,000 to Improve Batchewana First Nation's Rankin Arena

The Government of Canada’s $100,000 investment in the Rankin Arena will help Batchewana First Nation reduce the operational costs of its sports complex. Assisting with upgrades to the facility’s refrigeration unit and lighting, the funded enhancements are designed to save energy.

Terry Sheehan, Member of Parliament for Sault Ste. Marie, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and Minister responsible for FedNor, today announced the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program investment. The arena is used throughout the year by its First Nation members and the City of Sault Ste. Marie to host cultural events and celebrations, as well as sports tournaments.

The Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP 150) funding, delivered in Northern Ontario through FedNor, is part of the Government of Canada’s coordinated approach to mark the 150th anniversary of Confederation. These investments across Canada will help create jobs, boost economic activity, strengthen communities, and celebrate Canada’s rich heritage and history.
