Supplied by Sault College… (Sault Ste. Marie, ON May 29, 2015) 155 Borden Gray Air Cadet Squadron cadets have invited the public to their Annual Review in which Dr. Ron Common, President of Sault College, will be the Reviewing Officer.  He will be inspecting the cadets of the 155 Borden Gray Air Cadet Squadron and will have a chance to see a winning performance of the combined 155 Air and 2310 Army Cadet Pipe and Drum Band along with other displays and demonstrations.

Dr. Common is an avid pilot who attained his private pilot’s license as an Air Cadet. When he aged out of his Air Cadet Squadron, he had been promoted to Chief Warrant Officer and was the senior cadet in his squadron. The Sault College Aviation Technology – Flight Program presently has Air Cadets from across Canada enrolled in the program and has had over a hundred Air Cadets graduate from Sault College Aviation, having had their introduction and interest in flying fostered by actively training in the Air Cadet Program.  Air Cadets have also enrolled and graduated in other Sault College programs to further their skills and knowledge and advance them towards their goals for the future.

Oliver Karbonikk is a first-year Aviation student currently studying at Sault College who hopes to attend Saturday’s event.  Karbonikk is also a former Air Cadet who, like Dr. Common, obtained his private pilot license through the Air Cadet flying scholarship.  He spent last summer with the Central Region Gliding School instructing students who are pursuing their glider pilot license and hopes do so again this summer near Trenton, Ontario.  “The Cadet program has helped shape the person I have become and is a big part of my life,” says Karbonikk.  “It’s taken my passion for flying and helped make becoming a pilot attainable from a very young age,” he adds.

The Annual Review is a chance for the Cadets to show friends and family the skills and knowledge that they have learned during their training year. The combined 155 Air and 2310 Army Cadet Corps Pipe and Drum Band will be performing with their Highland Dancers. This band earned First Place Pipe Band at the Northern Ontario Area Band and Drill and won Second Place Pipe Band recently at the Provincial Band and Drill Competition.
