City council has decided to make some major moves regarding the city’s library system that will in part close the Churchill Branch and free up some dollars that can be used to meet capital requirements for the main branch Centennial Library.
The plan approved by council at last night’s meeting would see a library presence maintained at the Korah Branch in the Northern Community Centre while also exploring the possibility of transferring seniors programming from the Steelton Seniors Centre to the existing Korah Library Branch site.
Plans also call for establishing a library branch at the former Alexander Henry High School site and locating the city library’s archives at that site.

City council also approved a one-year salary freeze for its non-union staff in 2017.  It would impact over 100 employees and save the city over 200-thousand dollars.
