On July 7, 2020 officers with Patrol Services arrested a 28-year-old man for making or possession of explosives for unlawful purpose.
At 5:44 p.m. officers responded to a call of an unwanted person in the 1000 block of Peoples Road. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the accused and offered to give him a ride to his home. Officers advised the accused prior to getting into the cruiser he would need to be searched for officer safety.
As officers searched the accused they located what appeared to be a homemade explosive device in his pocket. The Emergency Services Unit and Explosive Disposal Unit were immediately called to the scene.
The device was removed from the area and safely disposed of. The device was found to contain BB’s and a fuse, but did not contain any commercial grade explosive materials.
The accused is charged with making or possession of explosives for unlawful purpose, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and carrying a concealed weapon. He is scheduled to appear in court on September 16, 2020.
