City council has given its approval to a recommendation from its Public Works Director to push back the opening of waste management operations due to the pandemic.
The Home Hazardous Waste Depot was scheduled to open on April 14th, the Saturday opening of the landfill to the public as of April 11th and the collection of leaf and yard waste on May 4th.
Currently the landfill is open to the public on weekdays but only for degrading household waste—deemed for essential use only.
With last night’s council decision, the opening of all three services will be pushed back to the week of May 11th or until further notice.
It also means that the opening of the Point Des Chenes day-park and campground will be delayed.
Plans called for opening it the first week of May—–an exact date isn’t being recommended at this point as city staff needs more time.
