Noront Resources will be putting on a public open house today regarding its proposed ferrochrome smelter planned for Sault Ste. Marie.
The the open house is scheduled from 3 to 8pm at the Delta Waterfront Hotel.
City council was told at last night’s meeting that this is part of the community engagement process ahead of the environmental assessment process.
Mayor Provenzano told council that discussions have taken place over a number of months with Noront regarding the possibility of establishing a community environmental council with local expertise that could provide our city independent advice and make recommendations as issues arise during the environmental assessment process.
Council was also told that today’s open house will involve a minimal presentation and a maximum chance for questions and concerns to be raised as five information stations will be set up as different members of Noront’s project team will engage the public.
