Sault Ste. Marie, ON – The City will officially announce the opening of Ron Francis Way at a public ceremony taking place Wednesday, October 5.
The lower portion of Bruce Street, from Queen Street East to Bay Street, will be renamed after Francis.
Sault residents are invited to attend the outdoor ceremony beginning at 5 p.m. at the corner of Bruce Street and Queen Street.
Born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ron Francis has been an instrumental part of our city’s history in the sport of hockey. He played his minor hockey in the Sault, followed by two seasons with the Soo Greyhounds, and an outstanding 23-year NHL career winning several major awards and two Stanley Cups.
Ron was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2007 and has served as General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes since 2014.
