SAULT STE. MARIE, ON (July 16, 2019) – Although not expected to negatively impact electricity consumers in its service territory, PUC Distribution Inc. (PUC) is notifying customers of province-wide voltage reduction tests planned by the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO). The IESO will be conducting two voltage reduction tests on Thursday, July 18, 2019, as follows:
” 3% voltage reduction test from 09:00 am until 10:00 am.
” 5% voltage reduction test from 01:00 pm until 02:00 pm.
Brief voltage reductions of this scale are not noticeable to most customers except for the possibility of a slight dimming of the lights. The service voltage supplied to our customers will remain within the normal operating voltage range during the tests.
PUC, along with all other electricity distribution companies in the province, are subject to voltage reduction tests, which are conducted by the IESO once every 18 months. The IESO runs these tests to assess emergency procedures, ensure staff familiarity and to identify any deficiencies.
