Essar Steel was said to be interested in U-S Steel’s operations in Hamilton and Nanticoke – the former Stelco operations currently under creditor protection.    While the company refused comment on the story, it appears now that any takeover plans are in limbo – if there were plans at all.   No formal offer has been made and one report claimed the rumour of interest was floated by the steelworkers union.  Metal Miner contends  Essar Group is already under massive pressure in its other operations in the oil, gas and iron ore sectors.
