Details regarding the province’s and federal government’s role in supporting a successful restructuring of the local steel plant will be unveiled in the very near future.
Following Friday’s announcement, Sault MPP Ross Romano says there were three areas the province played a part.
One involved assistance with capital expenditures…

The new Algoma Steel has committed to invest more than 300-million dollars in upgrades at the plant that will in part allow for the development new steel grade capability.
Another area was announced about a month ago by Premier Doug Ford during a visit to the Sault.
The Premier provided assurances the defined pension benefit plan would be there for over 6-thousand retirees and their families.
The third area involved legacy environmental issues for the new owners…

Sheehan talked about the fed’s role following the announcement…

Sheehan says the federal government previously was a willing partner in terms of providing needed funding assistance for Huron Central Rail.
The short line railway was thrown a life line last month by the provincial government which came through with last minute funding amounting to 980-thousand dollars allowing the Sault to Sudbury rail operation to operate for another year.
Sheehan says recently the government had committed to provide funding under the Trade Transporation Corridor program but the previous Ontario Liberal Government didn’t commit to provide equal funds so the application failed…

He says the feds aren’t interested in providing short term funds.
