(Ottawa, ON) Monday, September 12, 2016 – Today, Terry Sheehan, Member of Parliament for Sault Ste. Marie and Co-Chair of the Canada-Japan Inter-Parliamentary Group, arrived in Japan for a seven-day diplomatic mission to further the relationship between Canada and Japan.

Meetings in Tokyo and Nagoya, Japan will allow the Co-Chairs to meet with Japanese counter-parts and business leaders to discuss issues including trade, security, economic development, and educational and cultural exchanges.

Among other activities, the Co-Chairs will meet with Members of the Japanese House of Representatives, the Chairman of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Japan, executives of the Japan Oil, Gas, and Metals National Corporation, academics, representatives from JFE Steel East Japan Works, executives of Toyota at the company’s Motomachi Plant, and tour alternative energy facilities, including the Iwatani Hydrogen Station.

“It’s important that I see first-hand the challenges and opportunities present in the Canada-Japan relationship,” stated Sheehan. “What’s good for Canada and Ontario is what’s good for Sault Ste. Marie and increasing trade and working with Japan to increase educational, cultural, and business exchanges is something that I know is very valuable.”
