OPP OPP news release…
(JOHNSON TOWNSHIP, ON) – On September 10, 2016 shortly after 4:00 p.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the OPP Technical Collision Investigators (TTCI) responded to a two vehicle motor vehicle collision involving a car and a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) on Highway 17 west of Desbarats, Ontario.
Investigation revealed that the eastbound car crossed the centre line, entered the westbound lane and collided with a westbound SUV.
The driver of the car, James BUTCHERS, 34 years of age from Victoria, British Columbia, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 64 year old female SUV driver from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, had to be extricated from her vehicle.  Emergency Medical Services (EMS) transported her to a local hospital where she remains listed in critical but stable condition.
OPP were assisted by Johnson Fire Department and Bruce Mines Fire Department.
