Strike action by our city’s paramedics has been delayed.
Unifor Local 1359 representing 54 paramedics were set to take legal strike action just after midnight but that has now been put on hold due to a last minute decision from the Ontario Labour Relations Board.
The union says the City of Sault Ste. Marie applied to the Labour Relations Board to have the Essential Services Agreement declared invalid.
The union says a conciliator holds the position that the paramedics are not covered by the Ontario Hospital labour Disputes Arbitration Act and were in a legal strike positions as of 12:01 this morning.
The City is in favour of reaching a settlement through a third party arbitraitor while the union wants to reach a deal through bargaining.
The Board will hear the case on March 12th.
