A Toronto consultanting firm hired by the city to carry out an ice utilization study has determined that there would be enough demand to warrant an additional ice surface and it is suggested that the McMeeken Arena be replaced by a twin pad arena linked to the Northern Community Centre.
Now that the final report has been completed, council will be asked at Monday’s meeting to give city staff the go ahead to review facility options and costs, and financing options to construct a new facility.
A report to council indicates that city staff have requested an updated cost estimate for the consruction of a twin pad arena at the Northern Community site and it will be received shortly.
Further it is suggested that the Northern Community Centre could be expanded to accomodate a full indoor soccer pitch that could be carried out during the construction of a twin pad.
