The North East Local Health Integration Network has announced more than 195-thousand dollars in funding is being invested in programs to support people in Algoma living with dementia and mental health issues.
The announcement was made during yesterday’s Local Health Integration Network Board of Directors meeting held in the Sault.
Interim North East LHIN CEO Kate Fyfe says the funding is going to support two primary providers–the Alzheimers Society and to Mental Health Counselling in North Algoma.
There are three specific areas that will enhance services for the Alzheimer’s Society…

First Link is a referral program and the Minds in Motion is a group recreational therapy program.
The funding for the First Link Program will allow for the hiring of two additional staff.
More than half of the funding will go to the Alzheimer’s Society while the balance will enhance mental health counselling services for the communities of Hornepayne, Hearst, Kapuskasing and Smooth Rock Falls.
