Sault Ste. Marie, ON (October 4, 2017) – To generate opportunities for local businesses, the Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corporation (SSMEDC) hosted a showcase last week focused on Southeast Asia. Delivered in partnership with the Ontario Ministry of International Trade, the event provided companies with information and tips on how to access this diverse market.

The forum was concentrated on the aerospace, cleantech and information communications technology sectors. A number of local firms took part in the showcase, including JD Aero, AES Solar, Insightworks, Miramar Design Studio and Jeronamo Solutions. Attendees learned from the province’s Singapore-based market experts on how Sault Ste. Marie businesses can grow by selling products and services in Southeast Asia. The event was held at the SSMEDC’s Millworks – Centre for Entrepreneurship.

“We work with companies across Ontario to help them export to markets in my region,” said Eve Rotstein, Southeast Asia Area Director for the Ministry of International Trade. “During my recent visit to Sault Ste. Marie, I was thrilled to meet with a number of businesses and tour facilities such as JD Aero, Sault College’s aviation program, SIS Manufacturing and the Millworks – Centre for Entrepreneurship. I was truly excited and inspired by the calibre of these firms, along with the level of innovation and outside-the-box thinking.”

This initiative is part of the SSMEDC’s Invest Sault Ste. Marie program, which aims to create jobs by attracting external business and generating trade opportunities for local companies. For more information, please visit www.investsaultstemarie.com.

“Made up of 10 countries, Southeast Asia represents the world’s seventh-largest economy,” said Nevin Buconjic, Manager of Trade, Investment & Community Marketing for the SSMEDC. “Helping local companies access this market will help them grow, which will ultimately create and retain jobs in Sault Ste. Marie.”
