Soo Greyhounds General Manager Kyle Raftis is pleased to announce this afternoon the commitment from 2017 draft pick JOE CARROLL.
The Carp, ON native was the Greyhounds 4th Round Pick in this past April’s OHL Priority Selection.
“With outstanding performances at both our development camp and the OHL Gold Cup, Joe proved he is an elite player among his peers. He is the type of gifted player who has size, speed and a great shot. He uses his physicality to create space for himself with the puck and we look forward to continuing to develop this natural talent” began Raftis.
“He had many options as to where to take the next step in his hockey career and we are very fortunate and excited that Joe and his family chose to pursue his hockey and academic career with the Soo Greyhounds Program” concluded Raftis.
The 6.02, 185-lb winger played one season ago with the Carleton Place Canadians Midget AAA hockey club.
In 45 regular season games played, Joe had 18 goals and 21 assists (39 points) before adding 3 points (2g, 1a) in 4 games with Team Eastern Ontario at the OHL Cup.
Earlier this month Carroll was part of the bronze medal winning Team HEO at the OHL Gold Cup.
In 5 games played Joe notched 3 goals and 3 assists in 5 games played including a trio of powerplay points.
He was his club’s 2nd leading scorer, 6th overall of all participants.
“I’m so happy with the way things have worked out. The Soo is one of the best organizations there is and I couldn’t be happier to be a part of it” stated Carroll.
“I can’t wait to get things started.”
