City police news release…
On December 30th and 31st, 2016 officers with the Drug Enforcement Unit and Crime Suppression Unit of Sault Ste. Marie Police Service conducted a vehicle stop as a result of a 4 month long drug investigation.  That vehilce stop lead to the execution of 2 Controlled Drugs and Substances Act Search Warrants that were executed in the East End of the city.  The stop and searches were conducted with the assistance of Canine Officers from the Ontario Provincial Police and Canadian Border Services Agency.  Four people were taken into custody and face charges relating to drug trafficking in Sault Ste. Marie.

“Because of the work of the officers on this project, a significant drug trafficking group in Sault Ste. Marie has been disrupted.” said Staff Sergeant Jody Greco, Major Case Manager of the project.

As a result of this investigation officers have arrested 48 year old Claude Corriveau of Nicolas Avenue and charged him with; nine counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and one count of possession of property obtained by crime.

In addition; 66 year old Lois Macvey of Thunder Bay Ontario has been charged with one count of trafficking a controlled substance and 39 year old Shaun Bell of no fixed address has been charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

On January 3rd, 2016 officers also arrested 50 year old Darlene Owl on Nichols Avenue and charged her with; 7 counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and one count of possession of property obtained by crime.

As a result of the vehicle stop and search warrants officers seized;
” 1 kilogram of cocaine,
” 1/4 pound of Cannabis Resin (Hash Oil),
” 136 morphine pills,
” 52 ritalin pills,
” 40 dilaudid pills,
” 75 oxycodone pills, and;
” $18,000.00 cash
The street value of the cocaine is estimated at $60,000 however if the kilogram were to be cut and broken into grams for distribution the potential street value is estimated to be between $200,000 – $300,000.  The street value of the Cannabis Resin and pills is estimated at $10,800.00.

Marie” said Monique Rollin, Inspector of Criminal Investigations “Our officers will continue their collaboration with the Sault Ste. Marie Drug Strategy Committee to reduce the harm caused by substance abuse in our city.”
