Sault Ste. Marie ranked in the top 20 in a safe driving survey that looked at 86 communities across the country.
The 8th annual Allstate Canada Safe Driving Survey tracked collision frequency among Allstate customers in Alberta, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Ontario and the Sault came in 17th with a collision frequency of 4.61%.
That compared to the national rate of 5.7%.  The national rate is up a tenth of a percent compared to a year ago.
Six Ontario communities made it into the top 10 with Val Therese the top one at number 3 with a 3.69% frequency rate.
The Ontario community with the highest collision frequency was Ajax at 7.86%.
On a nation wide basis, the study found that although Fridays are the day with the  highest number of collision claims, accidents involving pedestrians and cyclists are more likely to occur on Wednesdays.
Collision frequency refers to the percentage of vehicles insured by Allstate Canada involved in a collision that resulted in a claim.
