Budgeting

It’s budget day for city council in the Sault.
Two days have been set aside this week—–both today and tomorrow to finalize the budget.
Council is facing a 5.63% tax levy increase which is one percent lower than what had been presented to council recently in a preliminary report.
Surplus funds have been used in past years to reduce the levy but the city isn’t expecting any surplus funds for the 2017 budget.
without any further reduction in the tax levy increase, the average residential property would be facing a $165 increase in property taxes in 2017.
Built into the budget is maintainbing services at existing levels but does not include supplementary items.
