Aircraft Mishap at Bells Point on the St Marys River

OPP news release…
(GARDEN RIVER, FIRST NATION, ON) – At approximately 12:02 pm on August 22, 2016 Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Garden River Fire and Rescue and Sault Ste Marie Emergency Medical Service (EMS), attended to a report of aircraft mishap on the St Mary’s River near Bells Point.
Marine Units from the OPP, RCMP and United States Coast Guard were also in attendance.
Investigation indicates that upon landing the aircraft took on water in one of its floats and the aircraft capsized. The pilot, John Paul FINCK age 74 years, of Sault Ste Marie, ON, was the sole occupant of the aircraft. He suffered minor injuries and was not transported to hospital.
The extent of the damage to the aircraft, a single engine Ultralight, is unknown at this point.
The Transportation Safety Board was notified of the incident and has released the scene.
