Jamie Henderson LSSUSAULT STE. MARIE – Lake Superior State ice hockey head coach Damon Whitten has announced the appointment of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. native Jamie Henderson as the director of hockey operations beginning in the 2016-17 season.
Henderson most recently served as the general manager of the Soo Thunderbirds of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) during 2015-16 after a season as the club’s assistant general manager during their 2015 Dudley Hewitt Cup winning season.
His first stint with the Thunderbirds was as an assistant coach beginning in 2010-11. In his second season as an assistant coach in 2011-12, the Thunderbirds claimed the Copeland Cup as the NOJHL Champions. The T-birds claimed the Dudley Hewitt Cup for the first time in team history that season and represented the Central region in the Royal Bank Cup, Canada’s Junior ‘A’ national tournament.
Henderson was welcomed back to the T-birds organization in 2014-15 as the club’s assistant general manager and was promoted to general manager in 2015-16. The team won back-to-back Copeland Cups as NOJHL Champions and claimed their second Dudley Hewitt Cup title and trip to the RBC Cup in 2015.
In four seasons with the Thunderbirds, Henderson helped claim three NOJHL Championships and two RBC Cup appearances as the Dudley Hewitt Cup Champions.

From 2009-11 Henderson served as an assistant coach for St. Mary’s College, helping the Knights claim the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations gold medal in his first season on the staff.
“I’m excited for the opportunity to join the staff of the Lakers,” said Henderson. “I’m looking forward to getting started and for the opportunity to work with an NCAA Division I program with such a storied history.”
A graduate of Humber College, Henderson also serves as the general manager for Silver Creek Golf Course in Garden River, Ont.
“We’re excited to welcome Jamie to Laker Hockey,” said Whitten. “His experience, both as a coach and as a general manager will add tremendous value to the director of hockey operations position.”
Henderson’s daily functions with the team will include travel preparation, film breakdown and analysis.
“Jamie will play a large role in our daily operations along with utilizing his experience for pregame and postgame scouting and statistical analysis.  We’re looking forward to a great season with Jamie as we celebrate 50 years of Laker Hockey.”
The 2016-17 LSSU hockey season opens with an exhibition game against Laurentian on Sunday, Oct. 2. The Lakers will open the regular season by hosting former Central Collegiate Hockey Association rivals Michigan State Oct. 14-15 as part of Great Lake State Weekend. LSSU is proudly celebrating 50 years of Laker Hockey all season long.
