news-sault college   City council decided not to accept a recommendation from city staff and will provide some funding to Sault College but not the entire one million dollars.  Council in a vote of 9 to 2 decided to provide Sault College 400-thousand dollars to put towards an 18.6-million dollar plan to build an Institute for Environmental Education and Entrepreneurship Facility.  Staff had advised in a report to council that the City may be forced to borrow in the near future to make up for the non-payment of taxes from Essar Steel Algoma which is likely to be in excess of 20-million dollars by year’s end and now is not the time for such a request.  The 400-thousand dollars will come from the City’s Economic Diversification Fund.
