OPP    The Special Investigations Unit Director Tony Loparco found no fault in the conduct and tactics used by OPP officers in responding to the case of a 43-year old man in Hilton Beach who was found dead following a stand-off with OPP officers in June of 2015. The case involved a man who had barricaded himself inside a residence on Maple Street on June 20th 2015 and reports indicated the man had access to several firearms and was suicidal.  Officers spoke with the man by phone soon after arriving and the man stated that he would no leave the home and warned of consequences if police entered the home.  Later communication attempts failed.  Around 5 am, officers broke the living room window, entered the house and found the man unresponsive.  A post morten determined the cause of death as morphine intoxication.  The SIU Director says in the circumstances, he could find no fault in the length of time it took before officers finally forced their way into the home.
