CitySSM  The idea of operating municipal day cares in schools is not considered a viable option.  A lenghty report included in council’s agenda for tonight’s meeting  doesn’t come with a recommendation and is presented as an information item.  The report looks into having the municipal daycare operating out of Isabel Fletcher School and St. Basil School.  There would be 83 daycare spaces available between the 2 schools which would be able to accomodate all the children currently in the municipal program.  However, the report states there would continue to be an operating loss for the city of around 310-thousand dollars annually and the funding model for spaces as determined by the Provincial government constantly changes.  Back in November, staff had recommended the City transition out of providing daycare services but council directed staff instead to look into the schools option.
