(City Police Release)

On the 12th of March 2016, at approximately 2:20am the Sault Ste. Marie Police were called to the parking lot area at the Pine street plaza for a report of a single motor vehicle collision involving a single pedestrian. Upon arrival Uniformed Police Officers encountered a 25 year old male that was found to have extensive injuries and was transported to the Sault Area Hospital. Further that the 18 year old suspect had left the scene. Acting upon this information, officers from the Sault Ste. Marie Traffic Unit, Forensic Identification Unit and the Criminal Investigation Unit were called to investigate this incident. As a result of the officers investigation an 18 year old male who turned himself in to the Sault Ste. Marie Police later in the day and was charged with Impaired Driving causing harm, Dangerous Operation of a motor vehicle cause bodily harm and Fail to Remain.  The male will appear in WASH (Weekend and Statutory Holiday) Court later today. The 25 year old male victim has since been transported to Toronto in serious condition. This investigation is ongoing at this time.

On the 13th March 2016 at approximately 10:00 am a uniformed patrol officer with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service observed a lone male walking in the area of St. Mary’s River Drive carrying two microwave ovens, later to be found stolen from Walmart. As a result a 44 year old male was arrested for Theft under $5000, it was also discovered that the male was wanted on a warrant for Theft Under $5000. The 44 year old male will be attending bail court to answer for these charges on Monday the 14th March 2016 at the Sault Ste. Marie Court House.

On March 13, 2016 City Police arrested a male age 18 for theft under $5000 and breach of probation.  It is alleged that the accused Matthew Scott Daynard stole over $250.00 worth of chocolate bars and energy drinks.  A loss prevention officer arrested the accused for theft under $5000.00.  City Police continued the arrest.  The accused is scheduled to appear in court on April 18, 2016 at 9:00 am.   On March 13, 2016 City Police pulled a vehicle over regarding highway traffic matters and found that the driver was allegedly prohibited from driving because of an impaired driving conviction.  The accused is scheduled to appear in court on the 25 of April 2016 at 9:00 am.
