Ottawa, ON – Member of Parliament, Terry Sheehan, rose once again in the House of Commons to encourage the Government of Canada to continue with their actions on issues affecting the steel industry.
“Today I was able to elevate the discussion about the crisis in the Canadian steel industry, including at Essar Steel Algoma and Tenaris Algoma Tubes in the House of Commons. The Canadian steel industry employs over 20,000 Canadians, and a further 100,000 Canadians have jobs as an indirect result of the steel industry,” said MP Sheehan.
He acknowledged the hard work to date of the Minister of Finance, and Minister of Innovation, Science, and Economic Development, as well as other federal ministries in their work with stakeholders to find solutions.
“The Government of Canada is committed to growing the Canadian economy and supporting the Canadian steel industry is a big piece of that. This Government will not leave the Canadian steel industry behind,” noted MP Sheehan.
“It was an extra honour speaking about this important issue on behalf my constituents as my colleague, MP Mauril Bélanger, who has been diagnosed and is suffering from ALS presided as Speaker today,” said MP Sheehan.
