EssarSteel  Supplied by Essar Steel Algoma…
As part of Essar Steel Algoma’s five year noise abatement strategy, Essar is
engineering a new ‘steam powered generator’ for its steelmaking process. This new
installation will reduce noise from the operation by capturing excess steam generated
from the process and converting it to electricity.
As part of the design process, Essar Steel Algoma will perform four Steam-Blow Tests
on Thursday, February 18 between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:00 pm. The tests
involve the venting of short bursts of steam which will result in loud auditory blasts,
approximately twenty minutes in duration. This procedure is required to ensure optimal
generator design.
All efforts will be made to minimize the duration of the steam blows and the procedures
will be confined to daytime hours.
