CitySSM A proposed telecommunications tower policy will be up for consideration at Monday’s city council meeting.  The need for such a policy came to light with Bell’s attempts over the past several years to place a tower in the Dacey/// River Road area.  Several residents in that area spoke up against the proposed location.  In developing a policy, the City conducted a public consultation hearing in the fall.    The cellular industry has indicated that a sharp increase in cellular data use in residential areas has created the need to site towers within or close to residential areas.  Ultimate approval rests with Industry Canada and municipalities can only make clear whether they support the application or not.  Not considered relevant in the approval process is the potential effects on property values and health concerns are outside the jurisdiction of municipalities.  Also the current application fee of 500-dollars is considered appropriate and will be reviewed annually under the proposed policy.
