ADSB_CLCC_Green_2_1600No numbers were mentioned, but the Algoma District School Board has commenced its Kindergarten Registration.  The public school board starts that registration early in January, following the Christmas holiday.  While registration is ongoing, two days — January 6th and 7th — were specifically set aside as dedicated days to register at all of the public board’s elementary schools.

One of the topics on the Committee Of The Whole agenda on Tuesday was the Healthy Kids Community Challenge.  The challenge was also discussed at Monday’s City Council meeting.  Over the next three years, work will be done to improve the health of area children and their families through the rollout of three phases.  Each phase will last about nine months, with the first highlighting a focus on physical activity.  The challenge will get rolling with a ball hockey event for kids 12 and under next Saturday from 1:30 to 3:30 on Queen Street in front of the Essar Centre.  Sault Ste. Marie is among 45 communities in the province selected to take part in the challenge.
