City Police   City police news release…
On the 15th of December shortly before 4 pm the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service received a 911 call regarding a missing 82-year old female.  The female wandered off from a family member while in the area of Goulais Avenue.  The female was wearing a “Project Lifesaver” bracelet that had been provided by the Sault Search and Rescue.
Officers from Patrol Services and the Emergency Services Unit immediately attended in the area.  Sault Search and Rescue were immediately called and 7 volunteers responded to the area.
With the assistance of the Project Lifesaver bracelet a coordinated search was conducted of the rugged area.  The female was located just after 5 pm in good condition in the area of Brule Road.
Project Lifesaver bracelets can make a huge difference as minutes count when someone goes missing. When weather conditions are damp and cold hypothermia becomes a concern.
Sault Search and Rescue has 24 active clients with Project Lifesaver and the program is available for clients between Montreal River and St. Joseph Island. The program began in 2012 and is designed to assist in helping locate missing persons with cognitive disorders.
This is the 5th call this year where the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service and Sault Search and Rescue have responded to a missing wandering Project Lifesaver client.
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service and Sault Search and Rescue have a strong working relationship and work well as a team on calls of this nature.
