A new look for northern Ontario as the Liberals managed to take 7 out of the 10 ridings in yesterday’s federal election—-they did the same thing in the 2006 election.  It came at the expense of the NDP and the Conservatives as the Liberals had been shutout of the north in 2011.  The NDP managed to hang on to just Algoma-Manitoulin Kapukasing and Timmins-James Bay however by narrower margins of victory—in 2011 they won 6 ridings.  The Conservatives won just one riding down from the 4 they won in 2011.  Carol Hughes will be repsenting Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing for a third term.  Voter turnout was up in both the Sault riding and Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing.  68.9% in Sault Ste. Marie up from 64.4% and 66.1% in Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing up from 62.8%.
