The need for a new super lock at the Soo Locks has been talked about for years – but progress has been minimal.  That need got a little clearer last month when mechanical issues forced a closure of the MacArthur Lock and the diversion of all shipping traffic through the Poe Lock.   The fix of the MacArthur is taking a little longer than expected – with the gate still not closing properly.  It’s hoped the problems will be fixed and the lock back to normal by next Wednesday.   In the meantime more than 60 ships have had their passage delayed at the Sault.
