DNRIt was a quite a spring for Fisheries staff with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.  The DNR reports almost 21 million fish were stocked, weighing a total of more than 325 tonnes.  Last year, the DNR counted 19.3 million fish stocked in the spring of 2014.  Between 2.4 billion and 4.2 billion dollars is put into the Michigan economy as a result of the spring stocking activity.  This involves 17 specialized stocking trucks travelling more than 100 thousand miles.  Almost 40 thousand Atlantic salmon weighing a total of more than 38 hundred pounds stocked in the St. Marys River from the cooperative teaching hatchery at Lake State are included in the DNR tally.
